Where the weather data comes from

Best Fishing Times & Barometer uses Apple WeatherKit for weather information for your selected location. The app interprets that information to produce fishing guidance. WeatherKit supplies weather data; the fishing score and recommendations are the app’s own interpretation.

A forecast describes expected conditions for an area. It is not an instrument placed in your lake or river, and it cannot confirm the wind, water conditions or fish activity at your exact casting spot.

What contributes to the fishing score

Four inputs, with different limits
InputHow the app uses itWhat to keep in mind
PressureThe reading and trend contribute to a pressure score. The app’s bands are heuristics, not universal feeding thresholds.
TemperatureAn estimated water temperature is compared with the selected species’ reference range. The estimate is derived from air temperature, not an in-water sensor.
Moon phaseLunar phase contributes to the score’s solunar component.A lunar phase does not measure feeding at your spot.
WeatherWind, cloud cover and precipitation information contribute to the weather component.A favorable combined score does not override an adverse forecast.

The app combines these components into an overall score on a 0–10 scale. The component breakdown helps explain which factors support or limit that result. Species-aware guidance also uses the selected target and conditions to suggest a starting point for presentation and depth.

What a score of 7.2 actually means

It means the app’s model has assigned those conditions a score of 7.2 out of 10. It does not mean a 72% chance of catching a fish, or 72% accuracy. The score is not calibrated against a measured catch probability.

Use it to compare options within your plan, then read the underlying factors. A score cannot establish that fish are present, identify underwater structure or account for every local influence. Two days with the same overall score can have different strengths and drawbacks.

Refresh before relying on a plan

Check the selected location, date and displayed time, then refresh before leaving. Conditions and forecasts can change after you first make a plan. Pro’s local planning reminders use the latest refreshed forecast available to the app; they do not continuously monitor weather in the background.

You can start with current-day information. Pro adds the full seven-day forecast, Best Day This Week, saved-spot comparison, pressure outlook, deeper insights and local reminders. Current purchase options are shown in the app.

Use the forecast in a real decision

  1. Set the place and species you intend to fish.
  2. Check the official weather forecast and local access conditions.
  3. Compare the hours you can use, then inspect the score breakdown, pressure trend and solunar overlap.
  4. Refresh before departure and adjust to what you find at the water.

Follow the two-hour trip example to see this sequence in practice.

Sources and scope

This page describes the app’s approach. It is not an independent validation of fishing results. The app privacy policy identifies the Apple services used, including WeatherKit. For departure decisions, consult National Weather Service guidance or the official weather service for your location.
